BT's Big Listen

Thank you!

It's been great to hear from people all over the UK who participated in BT's Big Listen week. We know from your emails and calls that faith groups, schools, youth groups, families and businesses were all busy raising funds for ChildLine and creating opportunities for young people to get their voices heard. You can find some of the highlights of the Big Listen week below.

Though the Big Listen week is over, the need to ensure that the UK is listening to young people - and the need to keep raising funds for ChildLine - continues! Take a look around the website to see how you can help to make sure that young people have the opportunity to ask questions and be heard.

Highlights of the week include:

  • Six Big Breakfasts
The Breakfasts were held in every country, from the BT Tower London to the Millennium Bus in Cardiff. Young people really grabbed the opportunity to ask their questions to leaders from their community. In Liverpool they asked questions on the Capital of Culture, and in Scotland they made themselves heard on issues covering everything from transport policy to sport in school. Young people had the chance to ask their questions to a range of adults, including Sports Minister the Rt Hon Richard Caborn MP to Children's Commissioner for England Al Aynsley Green and Guy Ruddle from Five Live. Check out the Big Breakfast 2005 summary to find out more.
  • Celebrity Auction

This year's celebrity phone auction was a great success. The bidding wars began early on to determine who would become the proud owner of a range of phones - including the best dressed phone by Trinny and Susannah - but it all had to come to an end and on Sunday 16 October at 8pm the auction closed. J.K. Rowling's Quidditch phone was snitched for over £215 and Simon Cowell is now answering the phone for one lucky bidder who paid £200.

  • Big Bag Packers
Groups of young people and adults all pulled together to pack bags for the BT Big Listen week. We had groups in supermarkets from Liverpool to Felixstowe all helping shoppers pack their bags in aid of the BT Big Listen. You can still hold your own Big Bag Pack - click here to find out how.

Although the week has come to a close we know that many of you are still raising funds and awareness of the BT ‘Am I Listening?’ campaign, which is brilliant. You can continue to use this website to donate your funds and tell us all about your exciting activities.

The campaign is far more than just one week of activities. It’s all about highlighting the importance of young people in our society and emphasising just how valuable the opinions of children and young people are. So keep making sure that young people have the opportunity to ask questions and get their voices heard.
