The Big Listen
is a week dedicated to listening to young people AND raising much
needed funds for ChildLine,
the UK's free, 24-hour helpline for children and young people.
What is the Big Listen?
It's all part of the BT 'Am
I Listening?' campaign, which has helped raise over £3.8
million for ChildLine
in just three years. The BT and ChildLine partnership began 19 years
ago with the gift of the unique 0800 1111 number from BT to ChildLine.
Since then, the two organisations have worked together to highlight
how important it is to listen to young people.
Every day, calls from around 2,300 children are answered by ChildLine,
however, the enormous demand for ChildLine's service means that
hundreds more children each day are unable to get through and hear
a message asking them to call again later.
Why should I get involved?
In the 19 years that BT and ChildLine have been working together,
we have seen the amazing results that are achieved when adults take
the time to listen to young people. To make the Big Listen week
a success, we need adults of all ages and from all backgrounds to
listen to children and young people and give them the opportunity
to ask questions and communicate their opinions.
It is especially important to listen to the most vulnerable children
and young people. ChildLine offers those in distress the support
they need when they need it the most. ChildLine needs our fundraising
efforts to be even better than ever this year, so it can maintain
the level of service it provides and answer even more calls.
The Big Listen 2005 is your chance to help, so please register
and get involved.
How can I help?
We want you to have fun, to take this opportunity for adults and
young people to listen to each other and to raise those essential
funds that will keep ChildLine a 24 hour service. It only costs
£3 for ChildLine to answer a call, so every penny really does
count.
Although the Big Listen week is over for 2005, you can get involved:
- Make a donation now
- Organise your own event and get your friends,
family, colleagues
and school mates involved
The links will tell you more about how your family, school, youth
group, business or faith group can support the Big Listen 2005 and the 'Am I Listening?' campaign.
So check them out!
