Big Bag Pack

What is it?

A simple idea that raises lots of money for ChildLine, and one you can easily organise in your local area. It was a big hit during the 2005 Big Listen, and can be organised anytime in the year! Community groups, societies and schools pack bags for customers in local retailers around the UK. The groups receive donations from customers with money shared between ChildLine and their own individual cause.

How do we organise it?

  • Seek early permission from your local supermarket
  • Make sure every paying till is covered by 1 or 2 Big Bag Packers
  • You will need 2 extra people to cover breaks
  • Decorate your buckets to ensure customers know that you are collecting for charity
  • Make sure your group is friendly and polite
  • Always ask customers whether they want their bag packed, some people will like to do it themselves. These people will often put money into your bucket anyway
  • You should be over 12 - this is mainly to do with height and being able reach items on the conveyor belt
  • Make sure the buckets are at the bottom corner nearest to the people doing the bag packing - this will make it easier for people to donate
  • It is advisable to bag pack in the peak hours - on the Saturday this will be from 10.30 - 16.00. Buckets should be sealed
  • You can send a cheque, made payable to BT ChildLine Appeal, to The Charity Office PP2009FH, Friary House, Briton Street, Southampton, SO14 3LX.
